Travel guide co-founder shares ad­ven­tures on 40th an­niver­sary

AN IN­TREPID trav­eller will share her ad­ven­tur­ous tales on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 14.

Hi­lary Bradt, co-founder of the famed Bradt Travel Guides, will talk at 7.30pm at St An­drew’s United Re­form Church in Pack­horse Road, Ger­rards Cross.

Ms Bradt, who is orig­i­nally from Chal­font St Peter, first ex­plored the Chilterns coun­try­side. Then she hitch­hiked to the Mid­dle East and, after a brief stint in London, trav­elled to South Amer­ica.

She used a sec­ond hand typewriter to be­gin Bradt Guides in 1973.

The company’s of­fice still thrives in The Vale, Chal­font St Peter.

This talk mark’s Bradt Guides 40th an­niver­sary and the pub­li­ca­tion of her new book The Ir­re­spon­si­ble Trav­eller.

It is a cul­mi­na­tion of trav­el­ling tales from writ­ers and celebri­ties such as Michael Palin, Ben Fogle and Mrs Bradt.
