Freddie’s a star as Beacon win tournament

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

FREDDIE Chhabra was the home team’s star when Beacon School U10s (pictured) hosted their sixteam rugby tournament this week.

Chhabra proved an immovable object, producing tackle after tackle in an inspired defensive display as the hosts won four and drew one against opponents from Chesham Prep, Berkhamsted, Caldicott, Davenies and Claires Court to carry off the title.

His defensive heroics allowed team-mates Victor Grant, Joe Harding and Freddie Hancock to display some flair while Raphael Weatherall’s late try against Caldicott sealed the win.

Meanwhile, the Beacon boys emerged as overall winners at a cross country event at Berkhamsted School, coming first in the years four, five and six categories and second in year three.

The conclusion of the year six relay was particularly exciting as superb runs by William Shurrock, Tim Hayes and Tom Way lay the foundations for Thomas Creighton, who had 10 metres to make up on Chesham Prep in the final length, to take the victory by 30 metres.
