Hedger­ley are cel­e­brat­ing that their vil­lage has been named the Best Kept Vil­lage in Bucks for 2014.

The award was pre­sented to the parish coun­cil on Satur­day by the Count­ess Howe, rep­re­sent­ing the Lord Lieu­tenant of Bucks.

The White Horse was men­tioned in the BKV judges’ re­port for its splen­did dis­play of flow­ers, and they were still look­ing fab­u­lous when after the award cer­e­mony, Lady Howe, judges and coun­cil­lors re­paired to the pub for a buf­fet tea.

To mark the oc­ca­sion a cask of ‘Hedger­ley Pride’ had been spe­cially com­mis­sioned from the Re­bel­lion Brew­ery by White Horse land­lord, Kevin Brooker. We’ve al­ways known this pub is a spe­cial place par­tic­u­larly for lovers of well-kept real ale, so it was nice to see it recog­nised as the cen­tre of vil­lage life. Con­grat­u­la­tions to all in­volved.

If you feel like giv­ing the old grey mat­ter a work­out, pop along to the Plough on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 11, for the pub’s next quiz night. It’s hosted by Ste­vie C and the cost is £2 per per­son to en­ter. The max­i­mum num­ber of peo­ple al­lowed in a team is six and there are great prizes to be won.
