Warning on train times

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

PEOPLE are being warned trains will leave up to three minutes earlier or later because of leaves on the line.

Trains on the Aylesbury to London Marylebone line via Amersham will depart up to three minutes earlier, while on the Birmingham to London line they will arrive at Marylebone up to three minutes later.

Chiltern Railways said the extra time is needed because autumn leaf fall means trains cannot go as fast as usual.

Rain and the pressure of heavy trains going over leaves creates a hard surface, which makes it difficult for the wheels to grip the rails.

A spokesman said: “It’s so slippery, our drivers compare it to black ice.”
