Get a rough idea of life sleeping on the streets

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

PEOPLE are being encouraged to take sleeping bags and cardboard boxes to a sponsored sleep out next month.

The annual Big Sleep Out, in aid of homeless charities, takes place on Saturday, November 15, and people from around Bucks are urged to go along.

It will take place at Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe, and will give people the chance to experience rough sleeping in wintry conditions for one night. It is hoped each participant will raise at least £100 through sponsorship for the Wycombe Homeless Connection.

The charity helps about 300 people facing a housing crisis every year.

Chairman of trustees Sheena Dykes said: “Some of the folk we see have slept rough for some time.

“It’s impossible to get warm or comfortable out there, and some of our guests have also faced abuse or violence when simply trying to get some rest.

“One night out really makes you appreciate a comfortable bed and a hot shower in the morning.”

The event will feature a competition to see who can build the best cardboard shelter and is open to people over the age of 18.
