Edwards the finals hero with treble trophy haul
Veteran takes singles, doubles and triples trophies
DAVE Edwards was the big winner at Amersham Bowls Club’s finals day.
Edwards carried off a hat-trick of trophies, the first coming in the handicap final where he saw off the challenge of Eric Sherlock.
He then teamed up with Pam Sawtell to claim top prize in the mixed pairs, before joining forces with triples team-mates Brian Hone and John Culley to complete his treble at the expense of Peter Bray, Geoff Beale and Robin Eddy.
The much-prized singles crowns went to Jim Saunders and Anne Begley as they beat Howard Brown and Joy Spicer respectively.
Sherlock, meanwhile, got compensation for his handicap final defeat by taking the men’s pairs in company with Des Grace, but there was more disappointment for Eddy as he lost the men’s novices final to Colin Willis.
Sawtell’s hopes of a second title on the day were quashed when she and partners Neil Evison and Geoff Beale lost out in the mixed triples to John and Sheila Barber and Beryl Steane.
In the other ladies competitions, Margaret Strickland took the Novices title beating Linda English, Pauline Shephard beat Marion Hext in the handicap final and Pat Bernard and Van Vuuren were the pairs victors at the expense of Jennie Brook and Diana Bassett.
Meanwhile, Captain’s Shield winners for 2014 were Ged Putt and Pam Hunt after wins over Ian Lee and Elizabeth Gilliott.
