Top players battle it out

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

THE arrows were flying as some of Bucks’ top singles players gathered at Hazlemere Community Centre for the start of the Super Singles Darts League.

Over the next 15 weeks, 16 players will battle it out for the title. The game of the week one saw Steve McLeod show good early form to overcome John Beattie in a high quality encounter where both men fired 180s.

Pat O’Reilly and Ryan Carroll were two more men to hit maximums in another absorbing clash between youth and experience.

Youngster Carroll led early on, but in the end O’Reilly made seniority tell as he triumphed 6-4. Newcomer Simon White found his feet quickly too to win on opening night 6-4 over Mark Luckett.

Two more of the contenders, last year’s third place man Blaine Jelly and Paul Woodbridge, could not be separated, taking two points apiece for their 5-5 draw in which the latter hit a maximum.

Rob Brereton though is the early leader after whitewashing Mike McLeod 10-0, but Trevor Brereton had a night to forget losing 9-1 to Andy Long.
