Chesham centre of attention
CHESHAM RFC is fast becoming an important centre in Bucks for girl’s rugby.
Following the World Cup victory by the England ladies team, the RFU have launched a strategy to get 10,000 more females playing rugby by 2017, when ladies rugby will be part of the Olympics.
As part of the program, Chesham RFC has been identified as one of the centres in Bucks for expanding the girls’ game.
This is based on the success of the club’s senior ladies side and the active and growing girls section.
As inspiration for the girls team, Chesham’s head coaches are women’s World Cup winners Rocky Clark and Kat Merchant.
As part of the development plan, the club recently held a county development day for U15 and U18 girls, attended by 50 girls from across the county, with the aim of selecting players who will represent Bucks.
