Home side slip in derby

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

Beaconsfield Aylesbury A DERBY defeat to league leaders Aylesbury left Beaconsfield to rue a series of missed opportunities on Saturday.

An early exchange of penalties, Callum Wilkinson kicking Beaconsfield’s, saw Aylesbury lead 6-3, but Andy Brodie grabbed the game’s opening try for the hosts, although the conversion was missed.

Wilkinson and Gerry Goss then both got within sight of the line, but instead Aylesbury broke and took the lead with a converted try.

Going into the last 15 minutes, Aylesbury scored again with what proved to be the game’s crucial try, and after Wilkinson missed a penalty, he did close the gap with a conversion after Beaconsfield were awarded a penalty try, but it proved to be the final move of the match.

The defeat allowed neighbours Drifters to move above Beaconsfield in the table following their 27-12 win over Wallingford.

Olly Ashton was the main man for Drifters, scoring a try and kicking four penalties for a personal haul of 17 points, while Rob Wills and Andrew Milton also crossed the tryline for the Farnham Common side.
