Hospice plans come with smile
SOUTH Bucks Hospice is currently in the process of fundraising to build a new community hospice and as part of the expansion, we are planning to add much-needed services to the list of what we offer to local people.
As part of this programme, we will be expanding our care for 18 to 28-year-olds. We currently offer tailored support to this age group but in the new hospice we plan to have a dedicated space and to make this happen, we’re working very closely with another local charity, Karen’s Big Smiles.
Karen’s Big Smiles is a funding charity and was set up in memory of a very special young lady called Karen Jenkins. During her battle with a rare form of cancer called Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), which affects just one in a million people, she found that there is a lack of specific support for independent young adults who wish to remain so for as long as possible.
South Bucks Hospice will be working alongside Karen’s Big Smiles as they aim to raise £30,000 towards the cost of our new youth room which will be named the ‘Big Smiles Base’.
Fundraising for this room will begin with a Black and White Ball at the High Wycombe Town Hall on Saturday, November 22. Tickets cost £35 per person and include a welcome cocktail and a three-course meal.
