Lions suffer heavy loss
WYCOMBE Squash & Racket Club firsts were not in action in the Bucks Squash League this week, but there were some significant results elsewhere.
Up-and-coming Aylesbury Grammar School trounced Beaconsfield Lions 19-1, while champions Chesham Bois firsts nicked the bonus points at Gerrards Cross, squeezing a 14-10 win. The only team in the division with a 100 per cent record, Beaconsfield Tigers, lie in wait for them next.
In Division Two, Wycombe SRC seconds won their top of the table clash against Beaconsfield Bulls 16-9 and now lead the table, having won all of their first three games.
In the Ladies’ League, it was Wycombe Swans’ turn to play Beaconsfield Spots, their clubmates the Kites having lost 14-8 to them last week. The Swans cruised into an early lead, with the top pair Bethan Draper and Marian Holmes both winning 3-0, countered by Nicole Manley’s 3-0 for the Spots.
It was looking like a well overdue win had gone ‘up the Swanee’ as Spots’ Kathi Taylor went 2-0 up in the last leg, but Swans’ Brenda Ede hung on for dear life, winning the third game 10-9 and the fourth 9-6. Although she lost the last, she had already secured the bonus points for a 12-6 win.
