The search for stability
Rams boss striving to add players with experience who plan to see out season
ANDY Hurley is hoping the experience of Danilson Vicente and Johnny Gray will help propel Beaconsfield SYCOB up the league table.
The Holloways Park boss made a move for the duo this week to add some more know-how to his young side, as they bid to escape the Southern League Central drop zone.
For much-travelled striker Vicente, it is a return to a club he graced briefly three years ago, in between spells at AFC Hayes, Hemel Hempstead, Aylesbury, Bedfont Town, Fleet Town, Thatcham, Chalfont St Peter and Hillingdon Borough.
Left back Gray joins from Reading Town.
Hurley is hoping to make it a treble by signing another striker before Saturday’s home game against Rugby Town.
He said: “Johnny is an experienced left back who will give us a bit more stability in an area we had identified as a problem one, while Denilson has scored goals wherever he has been – and he has been at a lot of places!”
A few players have also left the club, including former Hayes & Yeading frontman Julian Owusu, who was on short-term loan from Basingstoke.
Hurley said: “We want players who will be with us for the season really. Short-term deals do a job, but when the player leaves, you still have the same gap to fill.”
Beaconsfield at least no longer have the distraction of the FA Trophy, having crashed out 4-0 to Faversham Town on Saturday.
Hurley added: “It was disappointing, but they were the best side we have come up against this season. We were expecting to do better but came up against a very good side.
“We’re doing everything we can to change things, and it’s not through a lack of hard work. We’re changing the way we’re doing training and putting on extra sessions for fitness and general play.
“It’s a tough situation we’ve got ourselves into. It’s taking its toll on the younger lads who started the season well – and it’s showing.”
