First steps to new-look play area
COMMUNITY groups and parents are to be involved in plans to refurbish a play area.
Beaconsfield Town Council set up a working group for the project in Malthouse Square, which is home to the girl guides new headquarters.
It will emulate the Friends of Holtspur Park scheme, for which local people have raised funds and consulted neighbours about what they would like to see in the park area in Holtspur Way.
The council hopes the same can happen in Malthouse Square.
Councillor Philip Bastiman said the group has drawn up a short-term action plan, and ideas put forward so far include:
repairing the surface around the gym equipment with Tarmac, which has been eroded and has become waterlogged
installing a gravel path to connect equipment
restoring football pitches, and planting grass seed in spring
looking at replacing or removing the springs in the play area.
Mr Bastiman said: “We’ve had the first meeting. There was a focus on things that could be done in the short term, building on the success of Holtspur Park and looking to get the community engaged.
“There’s a number of things that need to be done and we are hoping to start that work.”
Mr Bastiman said the group would also look into more mid-term and longterm projects. For now there is no request for cash from the council, and Mr Bastiman said he only asks for people’s support.
Mr Bastiman, who also works with the Holtspur Park group, added: “For now we are asking for the council’s support.
“As this goes forward there may be a need for money, but we will also look at fundraising similar to what Holtspur Park has done. That appears to be working well and we want to do the same thing here.”
