PEOPLE living in a care home were treated to a day of French cheese and wine tasting.

The event, at Swarthmore Care Home in Marsham Lane, Gerrards Cross, on Monday last week, was organised by the Little Language Academy.

Academy members go there to give French classes to residents, and staff brought different cheeses to taste as well as white wine.

Debbie Lomax of the academy said: “We compiled special tasting notes on each cheese, together with a chart with stickers for each person, showing which cheeses they liked.

“The favourite cheese was definitely Comte, although everybody enjoyed tasting all four cheeses.”

The session also included a sing-along complete with musical instruments, including a French version of the Hokey Cokey.

Mrs Lomax added: “We find that many of the residents remember French from when they were younger, and love being able to speak a few words to us.

“We teach them simple phrases and greetings as well as colours, numbers and lots of French songs.”
