West’s grant will aid her aim to turn pro

TEENAGE golfer Char­lotte West has re­ceived a £750 grant from the Bucks Sport­sAid Foun­da­tion.

Ear­lier this year, the 17-yearold am­a­teur – who is al­ready part of the Eng­land U16 squad – beat a pro­fes­sional field to win her first event in the WPGA One Day Se­ries at Ch­est­field in Kent.

West, who lives in Prest­wood and at­tends Amer­sham and Wy­combe Col­lege, where she is study­ing for a BTec Sport Diploma Level 2, re­ceived her award on Fri­day at a spe­cial Bucks Sport­ing Lunch Club event at Dor­ney Lake.

A past Buck­ing­hamshire cham­pion and mem­ber of Hare­wood Downs Golf Club, she be­gan play­ing golf at the age of just nine.

Now prac­tis­ing six days a week, her am­bi­tion is to play at St An­drew’s, turn pro­fes­sional and play on the PGA tour.

She said: “I’m very grate­ful for the support. Win­ning the One Day Se­ries was one of my big­gest achieve­ments.

“I’m de­ter­mined to play as much as pos­si­ble and try and turn pro to make this my fu­ture ca­reer.”
