Be prepared for a thoroughly first-rate show
SCHOOLS will gather together to stage an ambitious modern production.
Students from Pipers Corner School in Great Kingshill, The Royal Grammar School and Claires Court School will perform Thoroughly Modern Millie.
The story centres on a naive young woman who finds herself in the midst of a series of madcap adventures when she sets her sights on marrying her wealthy boss. Julie Andrews starred in the 1967 big screen version of the hit play.
Pipers Corner School spokeswoman Rebecca Conroy said: “The performances will be staged on a purpose-built set in the school’s sports hall and is the most ambitious musical production ever embarked on at Pipers Corner. The idea behind it is to showcase the talent in abundance at the school and give a taste of what is to come once the new theatre is in operation in September 2016.”
Headmistress Helen Ness-Gifford said: “The whole school is very much looking forward to performance week. What I have seen in rehearsals has been hugely impressive and we are looking forward to sharing some fantastic evenings of entertainment with the audiences. With the theatre project on the horizon, enthusiasm for the show has been extremely high and all the girls, along with their colleagues from The Royal Grammar School and Claires Court, are excited to demonstrate what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.”
Performances are tonight, tomorrow and Saturday at Pipers Corner School at 7.30pm. There is also a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm.
