Base­ball park team aim for ex­pan­sion

A BASE­BALL and soft­ball agency has an­nounced plans to ex­pand its sports com­plex in South Bucks.

Base­bal­lSoft­bal­lUK (BSUK), the de­vel­op­ment agency for the two sports, has said it plans to ex­pand the Farn­ham Park Base­ball and Soft­ball Com­plex so the sports can de­velop fur­ther in the re­gion.

The ex­pan­sion will add a sec­ond in­ter­na­tion­al­stan­dard base­ball field to Farn­ham Park, to go with the ex­ist­ing base­ball field and two soft­ball fields to al­low it to host base­ball tour­na­ments.

The new base­ball field will have a di­a­mond in the right field cor­ner which can be used for youth base­ball or soft­ball tour­na­ments.

BSUK also con­vert an build­ing on­site base­ball and club­house.

All plans are sub­ject to ap­proval from plan­ning per­mis­sion and fund­ing.

BSUK’s joint CEO and head of de­vel­op­ment John Boyd said: “In just plans to ex­ist­ing into a soft­ball eigh­teen months, Farn­ham Park has be­come base­ball and soft­ball’s flag­ship fa­cil­ity, a cen­tre­piece of our work to build an in­fra­struc­ture that will en­able the growth of base­ball and soft­ball to­wards our vi­sion of Played in Ev­ery Park.

“The an­nounce­ment to­day means that we be able to bet­ter ac­com­mo­date lo­cal new play­ers and es­tab­lished reg­u­lar play­ers from across the coun­try, alike.

“The ex­tra field and club­house will be the fi­nal pieces to en­sur­ing that we can of­fer an ex­cel­lent ex­pe­ri­ence to ev­ery­one us­ing the com­plex.”

Farn­ham Park, the UK’s first ded­i­cated base­ball and soft­ball fa­cil­ity, opened in July 2013.

In the past year Farn­ham Park has been used by an es­ti­mated 4,000 ex­ist­ing base­ball and soft­ball play­ers, 400 new 13-15 year old play­ers, 400 new adult play­ers, 100 pri­mary school chil­dren and 20 blind or vis­ually im­paired par­tic­i­pants.
