Seven-try Wingrove helps make history
TOM Wingrove led the try quest as Amersham & Chiltern U10 Buccaneers triumphed at the Beaconsfield tournament on Sunday.
Wingrove claimed seven of the Buccaneers’ 22 tries, supported by five for Dylan Morgan, three apiece for Joshua Hooles and Ellias Lemoniatis, a brace for Raphael Baker and one each for Matthew Warren and Luke Gibson.
Edward O’Doherty and Oliver Marsden were the other members of the triumphant 10-man squad led by head coach Alan Baker.
The pivotal moment came in the day’s opening game against Windsor where they forced a winning try in the final few minutes to edge home 2-1.
Hosts Beaconsfield were beaten 2-0 thanks to a try in each half, after which the Buccaneers really hit their stride with 6-1 wins over Wallingford, Marlow and Henley.
It is the first time Amersham & Chiltern have won the tournament in this age group.
