Seven-try Win­grove helps make his­tory

TOM Win­grove led the try quest as Amer­sham & Chiltern U10 Buc­ca­neers tri­umphed at the Bea­cons­field tour­na­ment on Sun­day.

Win­grove claimed seven of the Buc­ca­neers’ 22 tries, sup­ported by five for Dy­lan Mor­gan, three apiece for Joshua Hooles and El­lias Le­mo­ni­atis, a brace for Raphael Baker and one each for Matthew War­ren and Luke Gib­son.



Ed­ward O’Do­herty and Oliver Mars­den were the other mem­bers of the tri­umphant 10-man squad led by head coach Alan Baker.

The piv­otal mo­ment came in the day’s open­ing game against Wind­sor where they forced a win­ning try in the fi­nal few min­utes to edge home 2-1.

Hosts Bea­cons­field were beaten 2-0 thanks to a try in each half, after which the Buc­ca­neers re­ally hit their stride with 6-1 wins over Walling­ford, Mar­low and Hen­ley.

It is the first time Amer­sham & Chiltern have won the tour­na­ment in this age group.
