Film producer’s action to publicise Dial a Ride

Charity say DVD will reach out to those who need service

A RETIRED film producer from Winchmore Hill has come to the aid of a local charity by helping to make a film explaining what the charity does.

Peter Viney volunteered to direct and produce a 15-minute film on video and DVD which tells people about the services provided by Chilterns Dial a Ride (CDAR) and includes testimonials from regular users of the low-cost transport service.

In February this year, CDAR launched a pilot Community Parish Project in the Chesham area, specifically for those in the community who have difficulties in getting out and about.

The project has been a success, but CDAR chairman David Ouvry believes there are more people who would really benefit from the service but who simply don’t know it exists.

Mr Ouvry said: “Peter Viney very kindly offered to make a film for us that we could show to potential users, those who would directly benefit from the service – whether it’s getting them to a hospital appointment or to do their weekly shopping.

“Now, we can use a portable DVD player, ideal for showing in the home or to small groups. The film tells all you need to know, and the DVD can also be lent out to community support organisations.

The costs of the filming, under Mr Viney’s direction, together with all the equipment for showing the film and the ‘rolling out’ of the programme is being funded by a grant from Affinity Water.

Emma Grigson, chair of the company’s community review panel said: “Affinity Water is a communityfocused organisation serving local people and we are delighted to be involved in projects that benefit the communities we serve. We are pleased to be able to support this excellent campaign.”

Mr Ouvry added: “This will greatly enhance our ability to reach out to those we believe need our help.”

The film had one of its first showings at a meeting of the Penn and Holmer Green Women’s Fellowship in the Church Hall of Christchurch in Holmer Green on Thursday and was generally very well received.
