Bucks like Downton Abbey for domestics

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

YOU are far more likely to find a company hiring out domestic servants in Buckinghamshire than in the average UK county.

There are 13 businesses dealing in domestic staff in Bucks, working out at 2.52 per 100,000 people, a figure that is 75 per cent greater than the UK average of 1.4 per 100,000 residents.

Types of domestic personnel include cooks, waiters, maids, stable boys, gardeners, chauffeurs and butlers.

South Bucks seems to be the ideal place for those aspiring to create a modern Downton Abbey style household with 5.9 of these companies per 100,000 people.

This makes you more likely to find somewhere to hire a servant there than in the average UK town.

Well-off London boroughs Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and Harrow were, perhaps unsurprisingly, all in the 10 areas of the country where it was most likely that you could find somewhere to hire household staff.

Across the UK as a whole there were 903 companies that listed the hiring of domestic personnel as one of their primary activities.

Westminster had the highest number of businesses dealing in domestic staff with 12.3 per 100,000 residents or 28 businesses.

These figures were taken from data released by Companies House, which aims to provide a snapshot of the UK’s businesses.

November is only the second month in which these figures have been made available to the public and as such they provide an insight into the UK’s business dealings.
