Young A&C stars called up for schools squad
FOUR players from Amersham & Chiltern’s U11s have been selected for the London & SE Independent Schools squad.
Using the same format as the England U16 and U18s, the Independent Schools select four regional squads to compete against each other at Rugby School next March for the Greenwood Cup.
From this, an Independent Schools national side, known as The Lambs, is selected to show off their skills on the international stage.
The four A&C youngsters, Oliver Webb, Tim Hayes, Sebastian Phillips and Luca Fahy, were all selected to play in the London & SE trial, along with 60 other boys from schools across the region, and all four were selected to represent the regional squad.
Having maded ththe grade,d ththe bboys will now play in four warm up games, the first being against a Welsh regional side from Rhondda Schools.
A&C MiMinisi chairmanhi MMatthewtth Webb said: “It’s the first time in history that four boys selected have come from one club.
“We are all very proud of them all and wish them every success for the future.”
The A&C first team were without a game last weekend due to the international break, but return to National Three London & SE action on Saturday with a game at East Grinstead.
Chiltern will be looking to end a run of five successive defeats, but will take heart from having restricted league leaders Westcombe Park to a 33-20 win in their last outing two weeks ago.
Also returning to action after a weekend off in Southern Counties North are Beaconsfield and Drifters, who played each other before the international break in a game which Beaconsfield narrowly won 17-13.
They are back in action on Saturday with another derby, away at High Wycombe, while Drifters will host Bicester at Farnham Common.
