Bucks’ promotion push
WYCOMBE Squash and Racketball Club hosted Stage One of the National InterCounties Squash Competition on behalf of Bucks County at the weekend.
A full-strength Bucks squad, including WSRC’s Tom Power, as well as Thomas Phipps, Matt Marshall, Alex Preston, Darren Withey and Trevor Loran, beat Kent seconds, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk to finish first and progress to the Division One promotion group.
Three of WSRC’s four men’s teams were also in Bucks League action and the firsts’ miserable return to Division One continued as they went down 15-8 to Chesham Bois 1B. Telmo Peixinho and Stuart Burnett both won for Wycombe, but the team were already 3-0 down, with James Pearson, Rob Parry and Neil Hinds winning for Chesham.
At the top, champions Chesham Bois 1A claimed a walkover against Aylesbury, and Beaconsfield Tigers convincingly beat Holmer Green 18-8.
It was a different story in Division Two, where WSRC seconds walloped Chesham Bois Upstarts 19-1 to maintain their top spot and 100 per cent record, with wins for Andy Walters, Mark Brown, Chris Popham, Petr Nedzarilik, and Matt Allanson.
The four teams behind all played each other, with Beaconsfield Bulls and Bears suffering a double reverse to Chesham Bois Juniors and Chesham 1879.
However, in Division Three, WSRC thirds lost their own 100 per cent record after coming unstuck in a top-of-the-table clash against Beaconsfield Trojans, losing all five rubbers and 19-3 overall, with only Freddie Evans, Laura Blakey and Dave Evans taking a game apiece.
