Celebrity baker rises to the big occasion
A CELEBRITY baker is set to get the festive season under way in a village by turning on the Christmas lights.
Gerrards Cross will be holding its annual Christmas Fun Night on Wednesday, December 3, and the event will be kicked off by baker and TV presenter Mich Turner, who appeared on ITV show Britain’s Best Bakery.
She will turn the lights on at the guide hut, in Station Road, at 5.45pm, which will then be followed by singing led by children at St Mary’s School and Gerrards Cross CofE School.
The fun night will feature a host of events including late night shopping, with individual shops offering different attractions and there will also be an appearance by Father Christmas.
A variety of food will be on offer, and visitors will be able to enjoy stalls and to see what is on offer in Station Road and Packhorse Road.
Jackie Spring, who owns clothes shop Puddleduck and is one of the event’s organisers, said: “We are hoping for a nice, cold brisk evening because it means that more people will come along.
“We had a night like that last year and we attracted more than 1,000 people so it would be great if that happens again this year.
“There’s lots to enjoy at all the shops and outside, so we are really hoping that as many people as possible come along.”
Ahead of the event, Mich Turner will be in the village’s Tesco on Thursday, November 27 to sign copies of her latest book.
Clare Weston of legal firm Nunn Hayward, another of the event’s organisers, said: “Mich is well known in the local community and supports many local businesses.”
The event is set to finish at around 8.30pm.
