The Last Post on the first sax

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy helped his schoolmates pay tribute on Armistice Day by playing the Last Post on his saxophone.

Ben Hunt, a year eight student at Gayhurst School in Gerrards Cross, performed the piece on Tuesday, November 11, after the school observed the two-minute silence with the rest of the nation.

It was the first time in the school’s history the music was played on saxophone.

During the service the school choir sang I Vow to Thee My Country, and the whole school joined in with Abide With Me.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, staff and children were all given a copy of St Luke’s Gospel with a commemorative insert.

The gospels were given to every soldier on the front line in the First World War and were designed to be the right size to fit into the front pocket of a soldier’s uniform so it could be carried with him at all times.
