Awards for sports stars and vol­un­teers

THE county sport Os­cars cel­e­brate a va­ri­ety of achieve­ments each year.

The ninth an­nual Bucks and Mil­ton Keynes Sports Awards will be a glit­ter­ing event at Ayles­bury Wa­ter­side The­atre to­mor­row (Novem­ber 28).

Shona Alfert, judo young leader at Dr Chal­loner’s High School, in Lit­tle Chal­font, has been nom­i­nated for the Young Leader of The Year award and Buck­ing­hamshire County Coun­cil and Chiltern Dis­trict Coun­cil have been nom­i­nated for the Ac­tive Work­place of The Year Award.

Roger Fen­nemore, chair­man of Leap, the county sport and ac­tiv­ity part­ner­ship which has co-or­di­nated the awards, said: “The mes­sage of this event is that we recog­nise the peo­ple be­hind the peo­ple in sport – all the vol­un­teers who make sport hap­pen.”

The awards night will be com­pered by Par­a­lympic gold medal rower Naomi Riches MBE, from Mar­low, and for­mer Eng­land hockey player Roger Dakin.
