Hazell regains child services portfolio

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

THE new cabinet member for children’s services at Bucks County Council (BCC) has been announced.

Councillor Lin Hazell is taking on the role from Monday next week, replacing Angela Macpherson, who resigned for personal reasons.

BCC’s children’s services are designed to safeguard and provide for vulnerable children, but were judged ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted a few months ago.

Its report criticised the way in which the county deals with children who need help and protection, how it looks after children, and its leadership and governance.

A plan to improve the services was submitted to the cabinet, and approved, leading to an investment of £9million.

Ms Hazell has previously held the role of cabinet member for children’s services from 2005 to 2011. She is currently chairman of the health and adult social care select committee.

Martin Tett, leader of BCC, said: “Lin’s commitment and experience will be vital in delivering the comprehensive improvement plan we set out following our Ofsted inspection report.

“She will be a real asset to the cabinet and her previous knowledge means she can hit the ground running.”

Ms Hazell said: “I am delighted. We have a huge task ahead of us, but I am confident we have a strong basis on which to move forward.

“I looking forward to working with staff to deliver the improvements we have set out in our action plan.”
