Harriers young and old gain gold medals
THERE were gold medals for the Chiltern Harriers U13 boys team and Eddie O’Gorman in the veteran men’s race at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Cross Country Championships.
There were also silver team medals for the U15 girls and U17 men and team bronzes for the veteran men, as well as individual bronzes for Sandra Reynolds in the veteran women, Jonty Wager-Leigh in the U17 men and Angus Williams in the U13 boys.
Williams, along with Tom Hunter in fifth and Tom Job in ninth, did enough to secure the win for the U13 boys, while other great runs from Edward Watson in 11th, Rupert Empson in 12th and Phoenix Everiss in 13th put the B team fourth out of 10. The U13 girls came 10th out of 20.
Scarlett Wager-Leigh in fourth, Robyn Watkins in seventh and Emily Bannister in 13th secured team silver for the U15 girls, while the U15 boys came fifth out of 10, with good finishes from Will Brown (11th), Angus Denison-Smith (15th) and George Brown (16th).
Hannah Thear was the sole female Chiltern competitor for the U17 women and ran well to finish ninth, while Wager-Leigh (third), Will Perkin (fourth) and Sam Howell (15th) made up the silver medal-winning team for the U17 men.
O’Gorman’s gold medal winning performance in the veteran men’s race was complimented by James Repper in fourth and David Breingan in 22nd to secure team bronze for Chiltern.
The race was intertwined with the senior men’s event, in which O’Gorman came fifth and Repper 21st.
