Har­ri­ers young and old gain gold medals

THERE were gold medals for the Chiltern Har­ri­ers U13 boys team and Ed­die O’Gor­man in the veteran men’s race at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onships.

There were also sil­ver team medals for the U15 girls and U17 men and team bronzes for the veteran men, as well as in­di­vid­ual bronzes for San­dra Reynolds in the veteran women, Jonty Wa­ger-Leigh in the U17 men and An­gus Wil­liams in the U13 boys.

Wil­liams, along with Tom Hunter in fifth and Tom Job in ninth, did enough to se­cure the win for the U13 boys, while other great runs from Ed­ward Wat­son in 11th, Ru­pert Empson in 12th and Phoenix Everiss in 13th put the B team fourth out of 10. The U13 girls came 10th out of 20.

Scar­lett Wa­ger-Leigh in fourth, Robyn Watkins in sev­enth and Emily Ban­nis­ter in 13th se­cured team sil­ver for the U15 girls, while the U15 boys came fifth out of 10, with good fin­ishes from Will Brown (11th), An­gus Deni­son-Smith (15th) and George Brown (16th).

Han­nah Thear was the sole fe­male Chiltern com­peti­tor for the U17 women and ran well to fin­ish ninth, while Wa­ger-Leigh (third), Will Perkin (fourth) and Sam How­ell (15th) made up the sil­ver medal-win­ning team for the U17 men.

O’Gor­man’s gold medal win­ning per­for­mance in the veteran men’s race was com­pli­mented by James Rep­per in fourth and David Brein­gan in 22nd to se­cure team bronze for Chiltern.

The race was in­ter­twined with the se­nior men’s event, in which O’Gor­man came fifth and Rep­per 21st.
