Wilkinson bags double

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

CALLUM Wilkinson bagged a brace of tries as Beaconsfield saw off Marlow 15-3 in Saturday’s Southern Counties North derby.

Beaconsfield opened the scoring within minutes from a driving scrum in the visitor’s five metre area, with Wilkinson scoring from the back of the scrum and another three points followed through a penalty, although their next hit the upright.

The next score came from a scrum formed from a forward ball right under the Marlow posts and again Wilkinson forced his way over for his second try and the conversion took the score to 15-0.

The game swung backwards and forwards, with Marlow, being put under constant pressure, not able to get their backs moving, but pulled back a penalty to make the half time score 15-3.

The second half was at a much slower pace, although Marlow put sustained pressure on the home side’s line, but with no further points being scored in the second half Beaconsfield gained some breathing space in the bottom half of the table.

It also moved them level on points and just a place behind neighbours Drifters, the Farnham Common side going down 26-7 at Thatcham.

Up in National Three London & SE, Amersham & Chiltern came within two minutes of a first win in six games when they led Chichester 16-15 through tries from Ross Budgen and Dom Wood, plus a Jack Kenyon penalty, but conceded a late penalty which was converted to send them to an 18-16 defeat.
