Staying clear of drop zone despite defeat
THE recent mini revival at Holmer Green came to end on Tuesday with a 4-2 home defeat to Spartan South Midlands Premier leaders Sun Sports.
Having lost nine straight league games between September and November, the Greens finally turned the corner with two successive wins.
Last week’s victory at Cockfosters was followed by more success on Saturday, with goals from Tom Fifield and Curtis Stone earning a 2-0 victory at Colney Heath.
However, despite taking an early lead through Dean Allen on Tuesday, Holmer had conceded three times by the time Allen bagged his second from the penalty spot with 20 minutes left, and a fourth goal was nestling in the back of their net soon after.
However, with drop zone rivals Hillingdon Borough also losing, Chris Allen’s men are at least out of the relegation zone going into Saturday’s home game against Hadley.
In Division One, ahead of this week’s derby with Chesham United Reserves, Amersham Town were edged out 3-2 at Langford last Saturday, despite goals from Jamie Francis and Craig French. Chesham also suffered a narrow defeat, 2-1 at home to Edgware Town, Reece Cameron scoring their goal.
In the Hellenic League, Penn and Tylers Green lost 4-3 at home to Didcot Town, where a D Jordan brace and an A Bradley strike were not enough.
