Is a wine specialist for Waitrose with tips on grape and grain
HOLA, los amantes del vino!
This week, we head to Spain, to Bodegas Muga, in the historical Barrio de la Estación (railway station district), of Haro, in the Rioja region.
Made from 70 per cent Tempranillo and a little Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, we are tasting the Muga Especial Reserva 2009.
The look is a deep, dark, intense blackcurrant colour. with violet hints to the core, as it clings longingly to the glass.
On the nose, it presents aromas of under ripe dark fruits, with touches of leather and herbal notes. In the mouth, a soft and silky feel. Big, rich fruit flavours have opened up, with notes of oak and herb entwining alongside.
This is a very sleek and decadent wine!
Alcohol by volume is 14 per cent and the price is £23.29 at Waitrose, but this wine is widely available.
It’s a good pairing with lamb or beef, and also suitable for vegetarians.
Why not give yourself a treat? Until next time,
