Per­sonal mem­o­ries shared at ser­vice

FOR­MER ser­vice­man talked about mis­sions in the Sec­ond World War dur­ing a com­mem­o­ra­tive ser­vice at Chal­font St Giles Parish Church’s Re­mem­brance con­cert on Sun­day, Novem­ber 16.

Arem­i­nis­cences were shared with the con­gre­ga­tion, in­clud­ing those of Tom Sayer who com­pleted 35 mis­sions fly­ing Han­d­ley Page Hal­i­fax planes over Ger­many from RAF Driffield.

A choir also sang num­bers from the First World War at the ser­vice which was fol­lowed by a pro­gramme of hymns and read­ings.

Church mem­ber Kevin Searle said: “The ser­vice re­ally was one of ex­treme emo­tion and hu­mil­ity re­flect­ing on the sacrifice made by so many.”
