Why not just turn off lights at Tesco?

CON­GRAT­U­LA­TIONS to Ger­rards Cross Parish Coun­cil, who al­lo­cated £24,500 to im­prove a foot­path on East Common (Ad­ver­tiser, Novem­ber 27).

Such a pity they can­not help to find funds to rec­tify the chaos caused on Pack­horse Road by the traf­fic light sys­tem out­side Tesco.

After count­less con­sul­ta­tions and pub­lic meet­ings, it was agreed that the sys­tem is un­safe and the cause of long de­lays to traf­fic and con­fus­ing to pedes­tri­ans. How­ever, it was de­cided that there were no funds avail­able to rec­tify the sys­tem and an op­por­tu­nity that a con­tri­bu­tion would be made by Tesco, was lost.

Does it need much money to switch off the lights and just leave the pedes­trian cross­ing by Boots, in Pack­horse Road, to al­low traf­fic to flow and as­sist cross­ing, un­til funds are avail­able to in­stall ei­ther a mini-round­about or sim­ple ‘Give Way’ signs to be erected at the junc­tion of Sta­tion Ap­proach and Tesco car park.
