According to data from Companies House we have the highest proportion of chocolatiers in Britain, which is bound to raise a smile for anyone with a sweet tooth.

There are seven chocolate making businesses that are registered in Bucks, meaning that there are 1.36 chocolatiers for every 100,000 people. This is nearly two and a half times as many as the UK average of 0.66 making, Bucks a chocolate hotspot.

South Bucks is home to two of these manufacturers, giving it a rate of 2.9 chocolatiers for every 100,000 people who live there.

This makes South Bucks one of the chocolate making capitals of the UK, placing it fourth out of all authorities.

Auberge du Chocolat, which has a shop in Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross, and a shop and workshop at Chess Business Park in Moor Road, Chesham, is one of the chocolatiers in the area.

Anne Scott, who owns the company with her husband Ian, said she thinks Bucks has a healthy serving of ‘foodies’ who care about where ingredients come from. She

TASTE OF SUCCESS: Anne Scott with her chocolate shop said: “I think there could possibly be a large number in Bucks because there’s been a colossal growth about people knowing what they’re eating, and it could be in Bucks the people are more aware of what they’re eating.

“When we first started nine years ago and I said chocolate tasted different depending on where it was grown, people thought I was mad, but now people understand that and people are happy to pay £4 or £5 for a bar of good quality chocolate. When you say ‘chocolatier’ that means good quality chocolate, and we’re in an area where lots of people want that.”
