100 crazy Santas to make a dash for local hospice
Group comes together for fancy dress fundraising challenge
A TEAM of more than 100 adults and children will don red suits and white beards to take part in a Santa Dash for charity.
The group, ranging in age from six months to 50 years, from Chesham, will run through Hemel Hempstead town centre with hundreds of other Santas – on two and four legs – at 10am on Sunday, in aid of The Hospice of St Francis.
The team has got together through Chesham Charity Crazies, a Facebook group set up by 44-year-old mother of four Claire Rooney, of Rushmere Lane, Orchard Leigh, as a way of enabling the community to come together behind ‘an amazing local charity’.

Mrs Rooney also got together a team of 22 people through the OurChesham Facebook page in October to take part in the hospice’s first Mud Pack Challenge, raising more than £10,000 for the charity.
She added: “We had so much fun that we decided we wanted to do something else to support this amazing local charity.
“The Santa Dash is absolutely perfect because we can all bring our kids – we can even bring our dogs, everyone can dress up as Santa and it’s just a fantastic way to get into the Christmas spirit.”
Mrs Rooney, who is mother to Malachy, nine, Lily, eight, Monty, two, and Bertie, six months, is urging others to join them.
She added: “We already have more than 100 people dashing, which is fantastic.
“If people want to join us, they just need to find us on Facebook and send a request to join us.
“We’re not setting up a group fundraising page – we’re just asking everyone to register and set up [their own[ fundraising page.”
The Santa Dash covers a distance of 2.5 miles and starts at 10am at Riverside in Hemel Hempstead. To take part costs £15 for adults, £5 for children and £35 for a family, including the dog.
Santa outfits are included and participants are asked to raise as much as they can in sponsorship.
