Franzen wins clash

MATCH of the night in week eight of the Super Singles Darts League saw both Blaine Jelly and Dan Franzen in excellent form, both hitting 180s, but Franzen came out on top 7-3 to go fifth in the league.

Table-topper Steve McLeod was up against Pat O’Reilly in what had looked likely to be match of the night, but neither player really hit top form and it was McLeod who hit his doubles to win 7-3 and stay top.

Unbeaten Rob Brereton was up against Mark Luckett and despite Luckett leading in the early part of the game, Brereton fought back well to win 6-4 and hit a 180, while Steven Vaughan got back to winning ways with a 7-3 victory over Paul Woodbridge, the highlight of which was a 128 outshot from Vaughan.

John Beattie has had an unusual start to his season with four wins and two defeats, and his match against Mick Carlton was another battle.

The 5-5 draw was a fair result, with both players hitting a 180, while Simon White recorded only his second win of the season – a 9-1 thumping of Trevor Brereton, which moves him up to 12th.
