COLIN Lomas came to our November meeting and his illustrated talk ‘Angels in Art’ enlightened us about how the representation of angels and cherubs has changed since pre-Christian times.
We learned that they were not depicted in the angelic forms we are familiar with today and the slides showed how artists and sculptors have interpreted these figures over time. It was also interesting to learn of the Hierarchy of Angels, known as the Nine Choirs, with Seraphims being closest to the Almighty and Angels coming in at the lowest ranking.
We then moved on to the business part of the meeting, dealt with swiftly by Carol Henry, our President, as this is the month when members agree to undertake various tasks for the coming year.
2015 will be Centenary Year – 100 years since the first Women’s Institute meeting was held in the UK in Anglesey.
Sylvia Lee gave information on the Centenary Baton, due to pass nearby at World’s End, Wendover, on April 25.
Several members were also interested in taking part in a one-day workshop to be organised by Helen Price in the New Year.
We are now looking forward to the December meeting, our Christmas party, and we shall be entertained by John Dunsterville, with Rock’n’Roll and a Rocking Chair.
