Spirit of Christmas
CHALFONT Wind Band are providing the music for an annual charity concert.
Carols in the Churchyard is being held at St Peter’s Church, in Chalfont St Peter, from 7.30pm today (Thursday) in aid of the Maria Taylor Fund.
The charity was set up in 1824 by Maria Taylor, who bequeathed £300 for buying bread, coals and blanks for the village’s poor people. Parish councillors Ken Adams and Karen Dickson now distribute charitable gifts on behalf of the trust every Christmas.
Mrs Dickson said: “We have a number of vulnerable elderly residents in our village who may not have a little extra to spend on Christmas, and a small treat can go a long way in sharing a little of the Christmas spirit most of us take for granted.” A SINKHOLE that suddenly appeared has been fixed while another is being investigated.
The hole in Wooster Road, Beaconsfield, which appeared last month, has now been repaired, according to Transport for Bucks (TfB).
There have been others: one in Cherry Tree Road and another in Holtspur Top Lane, which have also been fixed. TfB said it has carried out a survey of the drainage system in Cherry Tree Road and found it is working correctly.
Cracks had also begun to appear in the footway outside the house where the sinkhole appeared.
Spokesman Dan Elworthy said: “Repairs are being carried out to the depression in the footway, and further repairs will take place once the housing association has completed repairs within the property boundary.”
Other reports of sinkholes include a garden in Gerrards Cross, and a drive in Walters Ash, High Wycombe – the latter swallowed up a car.
