BBC award for Stags

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

TWO female coaches from Chesham Stags RFC were honoured at Sunday’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in Glasgow.

The England Women’s Rugby Team were crowned Team of the Year and among the players taking to the stage to accept their award were Chesham’s very own Rocky Clark and Kat Merchant.

Chesham Stags club president Cliff Davies said: “My memories of watching the Team of the Year awards on Sport Personality of the Year go back as far as 1966, when the England football team were the winners, and I never thought I’d see two people I know go onto the stage to collect theirs.

“I’ve only known Rocky and Kat for a few years, but in that short time I’ve seen the amount of hard work and dedication required to play sport at the highest level.

“I would like to say to them on behalf of Chesham Rugby Club how proud we all are of them both and what they have achieved. They are an inspiration to us, and I personally cannot thank them enough for all they’ve done for our club, and hopefully will continue to do so for many years to come.”

There was less to shout about for Chesham the previous day, however, as they went down 54-12 at home to Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier leaders Reading Abbey.
