PCSOs in fund threat
THERE may be three fewer PCSOs on patrol in Bucks if recommendations to the county council go ahead.
The cabinet has recommended £100,000 to be cut from PCSO funding in the 2015/16 budget, with a view to cease all of its £260,000 of funding for the officers in the future.
The total spend on PCSOs in Bucks is £600,000 and pays for 18 officers. Half of the funds come from the police while £40,000 comes from the district councils.
There will be a reduction of three PCSOs if the cabinet’s recommendations are approved.
Council spokesman Graham Skeggs said: “It is BCC’s long-term intention to cease funding PCSOs altogether, though a final decision is yet to be made on the amounts of the reduction.”
The first scrutiny committee looking into the cabinet’s budget proposals for 2015/16 was held on Tuesday, December 16. The final proposal will be taken to full council in February 2015.
