Challenges for charity
HAPPY New Year from everyone at the Hospice of St Francis.
We look after people with life-shortening illnesses providing medical care, practical advice and emotional support to help them manage their condition and maintain their quality of life.
Care is provided wherever a person needs it in one of our 14 hospice beds, in their own home or care home, in hospital or via our health and wellbeing outpatient hub, The Spring Centre. New prostate cancer course In February, we are running a new Prostate Cancer Wellbeing course designed to support men, and those close to them, move forward with their life following prostate cancer treatment. The six week, two-hour course starts on Tuesday, February 10, at 2pm.
Topics will include dealing with potential side effects of the disease, coping with stress and fatigue, recommended diet and exercise regimes plus managing relationships and intimacy.
The last session will be devoted to moving forward following a diagnosis to give men the confidence to get on with their everyday lives.

We rely on our local community to help us raise the £4.7million we need every year to fund our care. Can you help us? Is 2015 the year you want to embark on a new challenge? Why not take part in one of our fundraising events and do something for yourself and to raise money for us? You could:
Lose weight and get fit in our Biggest Loser Challenge, starting mid January
Learn to dance in our Strictly Learn Dancing Challenge, starting the end of January
Cycle for us! We have places on the Land’s End to John O’Groats ride, Three Cities cycle race and Ride London next summer.
Join a 12 day Trek to Nepal next autumn, including a volunteering project at a Kathmandu hospice.
The hospice’s medical director and consultant in palliative medicine Dr Sharon Chadwick, from Potten End, has already signed up.
She said: “This is a once-in-a-life time opportunity for me personally to help make a difference to the amazing hospice where I work.”
