HAPPY New Year from ev­ery­one at the Hospice of St Fran­cis.

We look after peo­ple with life-short­en­ing ill­nesses pro­vid­ing med­i­cal care, prac­ti­cal ad­vice and emo­tional support to help them man­age their con­di­tion and main­tain their qual­ity of life.

Care is pro­vided wher­ever a per­son needs it in one of our 14 hospice beds, in their own home or care home, in hos­pi­tal or via our health and well­be­ing out­pa­tient hub, The Spring Cen­tre. New prostate can­cer course In Fe­bru­ary, we are run­ning a new Prostate Can­cer Well­be­ing course de­signed to support men, and those close to them, move for­ward with their life fol­low­ing prostate can­cer treat­ment. The six week, two-hour course starts on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 10, at 2pm.

Top­ics will in­clude deal­ing with po­ten­tial side ef­fects of the dis­ease, cop­ing with stress and fa­tigue, rec­om­mended diet and ex­er­cise regimes plus man­ag­ing re­la­tion­ships and in­ti­macy.

The last ses­sion will be de­voted to mov­ing for­ward fol­low­ing a di­ag­no­sis to give men the con­fi­dence to get on with their every­day lives.

Join a 12 day Trek to Nepal next au­tumn, in­clud­ing a vol­un­teer­ing project at a Kathmandu hospice.

The hospice’s med­i­cal di­rec­tor and con­sul­tant in pal­lia­tive medicine Dr Sharon Chad­wick, from Pot­ten End, has al­ready signed up.

She said: “This is a once-in-a-life time op­por­tu­nity for me per­son­ally to help make a dif­fer­ence to the amaz­ing hospice where I work.”
