Consultation on Heathrow hub
Public roadshow for expansion plan
CONCERNED villagers hope a roadshow will shed more light on how the potential £12 billion Heathrow Hub expansion could affect them.
There will be a public consultation in Iver on Thursday, January 15, regarding the possible airport expansion.
The Heathrow Hub is one of three options that has been short listed by the Airport Commission. The proposal aims to lengthen an existing runway at Heathrow.
Iver parish council chairman Wendy Matthews said: “We hope to get more details, this will be the first public consultation in the area, we have been asking for one for months.”
The Heathrow Hub scheme includes extending the runway to 6,800 metres and claims it would give compensation to affected communities as it is cheaper than other proposals.
Dr Matthews added: “It [the Heathrow Hub] will be bang in the middle of Iver, it would have a huge impact on it and the roads around it, part of the problem is the lack of information.
“It is difficult to assess, we do not know how many houses are going to be affected.
“At the moment, we do not know if the impact will be worse for Iver than HS2.”
The other options the Airport Commission has are to build a second runway at Gatwick Airport or to build a third runway at Heathrow.
The decision will be taken later this year which proposal will go ahead to expand Heathrow.
Currently, the major international airport operates at 98% of its capacity within a current limit of 480,000 flights per year.
Everyone is welcome to attend the consultation which will be held at Richings Park Sports Club, Richings Park, Wellesley Avenue from 1pm until 8pm.
There will also be a rally against the new runway on Tuesday March 3 at Church House Conference Centre in Westminster.
