HS2 has no signs of democracy
WE live in a democracy yet the people of Chalfont St Giles have not been consulted about issues which affect lives in this very English village.
HS2 is a politicians’ vanity project similar to the white elephants of the Humber Bridge and Millennium Dome, of no use whatsoever to the economy of this country. HS2 will pass under the village and desecrate the countryside further north without consultation.
Chiltern District Council says it wants to preserve the green belt yet allowed ‘affordable’ housing on green belt land in the village. It seems unfair 99 per cent of young people in the village will never be offered a subsidised house, only a lucky ‘chosen few’ – by whom? Some residents have high incomes and homes elsewhere in the Chalfonts. There was no consultation on the green belt.
The parish council is proposing to spend £500,000 on an office when there are perfectly good venues in the village. No consultation.
Some are advocating a chicane in the Deanway, the main road through the village. This will hold up traffic and drive it into village lanes, as happened when British Gas had traffic lights there last summer. Road safety can only improve with speed cameras, similar to the one in Chalfont St Peter. No consultation.
May I suggest ‘community representatives’ start to represent the majority instead of their own absurd madcap ideas?
