Plan for 300 homes on part of park site
Developers hope to restore historic buildings at Newland Park
DEVELOPERS have unveiled plans to build more than 300 new homes and a sports centre in the Chilterns.
Comer Homes has plans to redevelop part of the site at Newland Park, in Gorelands Lane, Chalfont St Giles, including new buildings and conversion of existing student blocks.
The firm which has developed similar residential sites, allowing people to buy homes in period listed buildings while providing facilities such as swimming pools and tennis courts, will find out by the end of March whether its application has been approved by Chiltern District Council.
Spokesman for Comer Homes, David Mcfarlane, said: “Comer Homes hopes to be able to restore the historical buildings and create new apartments and homes in the buildings and grounds for current and future residents of the area.”
The firm proposed 16 six bedroom houses, 34 four bedroom houses, 50 three bedroom houses, 188 two bedroom houses and 21 one bedroom apartments, all together 309 homes plus 822 parking spaces.
This will include 43 affordable homes – 13 three bedroom, 10 two bedroom and 20 one bedroom. There will also be a gymnasium, a children’s playground and sports pitches for residents.
The community has been offered use of sports facilities at the development, new footpaths and biodiversity improvements.
The plans also involve alterations to a Grade II listed manor house and a stable building to provide new accommodation.
The firm has proposed to refurbish garden buildings, a cottage and a lodge, restore a garden wall and demolish a building to the west of the entrance drive.
At the site there is currently a mixture of former college buildings and a Grade II manor house among other facilities for outdoor sports.
It is next to Chiltern Open Air Museum.
