Book fayre gets pupils ‘engaged with reading’

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SCHOOL REPORT -

CHILDREN at a school helped to raise money for new books for the classroom by taking part in a book fayre. The fayre took place last month at the Denham Green E-Act Academy and was open to pupils and their parents.

They were able to buy a wide selection of books and funds totalling £232 were raised for new supplies and books.

The aim of the fayre was to encourage reading outside the classroom, with children being able to buy their favourite books and to discover classics from the past.

Head teacher Sarah English said: “The book fayre was a real success and it’s great seeing the children get so excited by reading and discovering new books.

“At Denham Green, we believe literacy and reading are key skills and getting children engaged with reading at an early age is vital to their next steps in education.

“Given that we’re a small primary academy, the money we raised is fantastic and shows that there is a desire in our pupils, which we hope will only continue to grow.”
