High School just miss out on semi-finals
BEACONSFIELD High School’s U18 indoor hockey team did themselves proud at the Indoor Hockey National Finals last week.
It was the first time the school had made the nationals for 12 years, so just being there was an achievement in itself.
The team came away with one win, two draws and a loss which despite being a good set of results, does not tell the whole story.
Their sole defeat was a 4-3 loss to eventual winners Ipswich, in which Beaconsfield had a goal controversially disallowed, and in their 1-1 draw with Repton, who had won the tournament for the previous five years, Beaconsfield were winning until three minutes to go.
Had they have drawn with Ipswich or beaten Repton, they would have been in the semi finals, so it was a close-fought thing for Beaconsfield, who were also the team to concede the fewest goals in the whole competition.
To add more context to their achievement, some of the girls have only been playing indoor hockey for a few months, but have trained and worked extremely hard and were a credit to the school.
The team included Emma Couves, Lizzie Clarke, Daisy Ruhle, Ellie Robinson, Laura Drysdale, India Gommo, Georgie Dean, Kate Lemon, Abby Wagge, Jenna Wyllie and Caroline Spence.
