Ladies proud of rugby royalty Rocky
Skipper praises World Cup winner who has been made MBE
CHESHAM Ladies RFC skipper Vicky Boorman joked that her team do not know whether or not to curtesy to coach Rocky Clark since she was made an MBE.
But if Rocky, whose real name is Rochelle, guides the team to an unbeaten season and promotion from Women’s NC SEN 1, they will be shouting her name from the rooftops.
Clark, along with Kat Marchant, is one of the victorious England team at last year’s Women’s World Cup who coach the Chesham Ladies side.
Since Rocky was named in the New Year’s Honours list, Chesham have continued their fine form, with two more wins in January, including last Sunday’s 15-0 victory over Southwold Swallows, making it seven from seven this season.
They currently lead the table by 14 points and they only need five more wins, starting with a home game against bottom side Wymondham Wasps on Sunday week, to make it a 100 per cent season.
Boorman said: “This team has been going for 20 years and I have been here for 12 of them. I can’t remember an unbeaten season before – it would be a great achievement.
“There’s been some real ups and downs over the years. We have played at the level below the Women’s Premiership and we have also gone to the bottom and rebuilt from scratch, but we have really developed the club over the past five years.
“Rocky is a level three coach and she makes sure you enjoy every session, whether you’ve been playing for years like me or are just starting out.
“We were proud of her when we watched her lift the World Cup in Paris, and we are so proud of her MBE too. She thoroughly deserves her award and it hasn’t changed her at all.
“She helps make the club special. I’ve moved all over the place over the years but wouldn’t dream of playing anywhere else.”
Elsewhere, while her former team-mates are dreaming of promotion, ex-Chesham Ladies player Lauren Cattell this week helped Saracens Women secure the Premiership title.
Chesham’s men’s team did not have a game last weekend due to the weather.
