A&C make their pitch
AMERSHAM & Chalfont Hockey Club this week formally applied for planning permission to build a new pitch and clubhouse at Amersham & Wycombe College.
The application is for one hockey pitch and two practice and warm up areas the size of netball courts, plus a two-storey clubhouse overlooking the pitch.
Longer term, the club will need a second pitch, but this will only be developed if the demand is confirmed and future funding allows.
If the plan is approved at the end of March, work is expected to commence in the summer of 2015 and take three to four months.
Club chairman Peter Rowlins said: “We want Amersham & Chalfont to be the preeminent hockey club for juniors and adults in the Chiltern area. We have had a great 25 years at Newland Park, but circumstances there have changed and the owners are unable to give us long-term secure tenure.
“As well as offering the club a fantastic long-term home, it means the college, and potentially other local schools, will have access to state-of-the-art sporting facilities.”
To fund the work, club members have raised more than £300,000, while £650,000 in grants has been secured from Sports England, England Hockey and the National Hockey Foundation.
