Car park users cross the line
Drivers criticised for their poor parking
here. We were somewhat surprised as we don’t have a bull!
“We also have thousands of geraniums for spring gardens being planted.” PEOPLE who park at a station car park have been criticised for taking up too many spaces with their vehicles.
Gerrards Cross Station car park is frequently used by people using the station who are travelling to London for work, meaning that it is often difficult to find a space during the day.
A driver who regularly uses the site says the situation has been made worse by the fact that many car owners are not parking in the marked out spaces, and are instead leaving their cars across two bays, reducing the amount of space for other drivers who wish to park there.
Calls have now been made for Chiltern Railways, which runs the car park, to enforce fines or other punishments on drivers who are parked incorrectly in order to put a stop to the problem.
David Hampshire, of Stoke Wood, Stoke Poges, who regularly uses the car park, said: “There is a shortage of spaces in the car park.
“Most days by midmorning both the station car park and the car park above the station are full.
“This leaves passengers with the options of using the Tesco car park, parking on the road, where there is a one-hour limit and risking a ticket, or driving into London.
“On any day a quick walk around the car park will find usually between 10 and 20 places unusable because people have parked their cars across the lines and effectively taken up two spaces.
“Admittedly the lines are not very clear, but they are clear enough to see when you are parking across them.”
Mr Hampshire has contacted Chiltern Railways, which told him that plans are in place to resurface the car park, at which point the lines will be redrawn.
However, he believes that in the mean time people should be fined for parking incorrectly.
He said: “Given the cost of parking at the station, plus the cost of a ticket, it seems reasonable to expect [Chiltern Railways] to make more effort for their customers.”
