A MAYOR has said reports of dog fighting gangs coming to Bucks to steal dogs is very upsetting and he wants to see those responsible prosecuted.
Chesham mayor Mo Fayyaz said he will be speaking to Thames Valley Police about the crime and he hopes they will take the matter seriously.
He added: “We’ve had a few incidents here in the past and if it’s still ongoing then I’m very sad to hear that.
“This is a very serious matter and I’ll be talking to the police about it so they are aware of what’s going on.
“I’ve heard a few reports of missing cats in the area but I haven’t heard about any missing dogs.
“If it is happening then it’s animal cruelty and I hope the people responsible are prosecuted.”
Mr Fayyaz urged anyone with information to contact Thames Valley Police on 101. A BULL terrier owner is warning others that her breed of dog is being targeted by pet thieves for dog fighting gangs.
Georgia Mann who offers dog boarding and walking was not surprised to hear of dogs being snatched from gardens, outside shops and during walks in and around Chesham.
Mrs Mann who started her business seven years ago in Little Chalfont urges fellow owners to take precautions after the recent wave of dog thefts.
She said: “There are so many dogs being stolen at the moment. I do not know whether it is getting worse or because of social media sites like Facebook where someone posts about it and it gets people talking.”
