Worried dog club issues warning to members
MEMBERS of a dog training school has thanked this newspaper for highlighting the issue of dog fighting gangs stealing pets in Bucks.
Chesvale Dog Club, based at Ley Hill Memorial Hall, has issued a warning to its members about the crime after an article we ran last week.
Committee member Pauline Finn said: “I’m aware of the problem and I know our members are aware as well.
“We always tell our members not to do things like leave their dogs outside shops.
“We haven’t had anyone at the club have their dog stolen but people have been coming up saying their neighbour has.
“It’s quite a common problem and I’ve seen signs at a vets in Berkhamsted warning people about it.
“It’s worrying and I’ve also heard it’s common in Chesham. We as a club are very aware that the problem is out there. It’s a concern and we’ve put something on Facebook to warn our members.
“You have to be very aware about where you leave your dog. It must be so upsetting to lose a dog to a) not know where it is Chesvale Dog Training Club has issued a warning to its members about dogs being stolen for fighting but then to b) have someone tell you that’s [being used as bait for dog fighting] is what has happened to it.
“It’s all very worrying and I’m glad this is highlighting it.”
